In 1998, my dad bought some property next to me outside of St. Martinville, Louisiana as a retirement hobby. He came out often and we spent many hours planting live oak trees, bald cypress, pecan trees, citrus, and fruit trees. I have enjoyed many years of fruit from these plantings, but none are as nourishing as the lifelong memories of my father that carry on even today.
Being in south Louisiana, these trees have weathered many heavy storms, yet they still stand tall, a testament to their strength. Seeing the mature oaks and cypress that dad and I planted provides me great comfort each day even though dad died years ago. Walking in the shade beneath them reminds me of the man who raised me as strong as a Louisiana live oak. These trees are a lifelong reminder of the time we spent together, the strength and stability he possessed, and the lifelong lessons he taught me. Some day, I am certain that my children will also walk beneath the shade of these same trees, and hopefully have the same fond memories of their father as I do of mine.
As I approach retirement, I have been inspired to continue the memories of my dad and hopefully create similar memories in many other places with many others like me. I started selling young seedlings and offer many types of trees, including some grown from the very trees planted with my father. My main interest is in wildlife and hunting attractions, so I offer several types of oak trees, some cover and browse trees, as well as some fruit-bearing trees.
