Southern Live Oak (Quercus virginiana)

Southern Live Oak (Quercus virginiana)

Hardy and very stately oak tree.  Grows to about 50 feet in height, but is often wider than it is tall.  It is a cherished southern heritage tree that often lines driveways and forms centerpieces to homesteads.  Large sprawling branches under a thick canopy often provide for fern or spanish moss growth along branches.  Produces dark green glossy leaves that hold all year, giving it the name Live Oak.  Produces small to medium acorns in early fall.  Very hardy tree, tolerant of well drained fields to wet coastal plains.
